It's winter! It's cold, the snow has been on the ground for three weeks but then that's the way it is in the Great White North. Judging by the orders in January and February there's a whole lotta knitting and weaving goin' on. If you have net access check out our site yarnsplus.com as we just completed our bi-monthly update. It's only six weeks to our first show of the season, Cardiknits in Ancaster, Ontario followed by Wasson 2000 in Kapuskasing (now that's the real Great White North). Although Convergence 2000 is not until June we are planning our trip already. If you're going to be there, be sure to drop by and say hello! Whether it's at a show or on the phone we really like to talk to our customers to get their feedback on our products and service. We are a new company and are relying on building for the future with a reputation of keeping our customers happy. If ever it isn't right, we'll make it right! Don & Marie Beginner's Tip Selvedges. Those perfect selvedges seem just out of reach at the beginning. Of course, practice will make perfect, but along with that try these hints. 1: Always keep as tight a tension as possible on your warp. 2: Always throw your shuttle so that the weft lies at an angle of 45 degrees. 3: After bringing beater forward draw out enough yarn for the next pick, eliminating any tugging at the edge when throwing the next pick.
4: Change your shed before pushing beater to back position. This should clear your shed of any "sticky" yarns. Fringes, Fringes and More Fringes
Make only three rows of overhand knots and then separate each group of threads into two groups and make a series of (5-6) overhand knots along the length of each grouping. This fringe has a lot of energy and movement! In the last Yarns Plus News, we announced Rayon Lustre as our latest product. All the ten solid and six variegated colours are now in stock. Rayon Lustre is an 8-ply rayon that is a Yarns Plus exclusive. At 1250 yd/lb it could be described as a light "thick and thin", lightly twisted with great hand. Marie has just completed samples of Rayon Lustre in five variegated pastel colourings. There're spectacular! We plan to have this addition to the Rayon Lustre line ready for late April. The dyed Rayon Lustre comes in 4 oz., 113-gram skeins of 312 yards. Solid $8.00 per skein, variegated $10.00 per skein. Undyed on the cone at $16.00 a lb, and in 4 oz. dye skeins with six ties for $6.00 a skein. We have added 12 colours to our mill dyed line for a total of 36 colours. Call or email for a winding. Until April 30, 2000 buy one pound for $100.00 (Regular price $125.00) Shipping extra. We tested the sample of the 3,000 yds/lb. undyed rayon chenille. It behaves beautifully during dyeing. This yarn will give you the feel of Chenille but be light in weight. Ideal for summer stoles. It's on hold for pick-up on the next yarn run. More next time. We may just have it? When we buy mill end lots of rayon chenille we often end up with smaller quantities of some colours. While not enough to put on a shade card one of those colours may be just what you need for a project. Just call, we'll be glad to send a winding for you to check. Shows, that at present, we plan to attend in the year 2,000
