Finally a great day, sunny and warm. Marie and I went to work on the front yard late this afternoon to start the annual spring clean up. A few years ago Marie had the front yard converted to an urban wilderness. It's great, takes a lot less time to keep up than cutting the grass. A week ago we attended Cardiknits in Ancaster, Ontario. This was our first Machine Knitters show so we were a little unsure of exactly what would sell. We sold some of everything we took. It was a great experience, made better by great people. In less than a month we'll be at Wasoon in Kapuskasing. Gertrude Thibeault promises the dates are between the snow and the black flies. Last month we had an opportunity to bid on the entire Rayon Chenille inventory of a New York City home furnishings company that was exiting the production end of the business. We got it all! See "What's New" for a list of the goodies! Don & Marie Controlling Balls of Yarn To keep noncentre-pull balls of yarn from rolling around place the ball in a small paper bag. Round ice cream cartons with snug lids can also be used to control big balls. Simply make a hole in the lid and feed the yarn through the hole.
Special Effects with Special Yarn Marie participates in four newsgroups on the net. Some of the ideas that surface are fantastic. Thanks to Su Butler for this one on using variegated yarn for special effect. Take stripes of variegated yarn and mix them with stripes of solid yarn. A thin stripe of the variegated will go a long way using it this way. If you sett rather close and weave with a very fine weft, you will get a warp dominant fabric and see a good deal of your special yarn. Or you could simply alternate variegated yarn with a coordinating solid colour for another special fabric. These special effects could be achieved with our Rayon Chenille and Rayon Lustre yarns. In both lines we offer ten solid and six variegated colours. The advantage is you are assured the colours match as our variegated yarns are made up with the same colours used to dye the solids. Try a sample and see how you like the effect. As mentioned in Hello we have lots of new goodies from the New York buy! A LARGE quantity of an unbelievable 550 yd/lb undyed Rayon Chenille from one of the best American mills for chenille. We are ready to take custom dyeing orders in any of our ten standard colours. Call for a sample, you'll just love it! Here's the best news . Same price as our solid colour 1450 yd/lb hand dyed Chenille. The real coup was getting a quantity of Kid Mohair. Made in Italy this yarn is 67% Kid Mohair, 30% Nylon and 3% Merino. It is fine -approximately 4,800 yd/lb. We have five really nice colours. Priced at $40.00/lb it won't last long. Call for samples. The buy included Rayon Chenille (1300 yd/lb) in a super red and beautiful Bordeaux. These have been added to our Mill-dyed line. We also picked up a fair quantity of undyed 1300 yd/lb Rayon Chenille that can be ordered on one-pound tubes or two pounds on dye cones.
