The goblins are days away but today it feels like winter, 1C (34F) with the wind chill at -11. Too cold to rake the leaves.....oh, well maybe later in the week. The Fall has flown by, guess that's what happens when your busy. The three shows we attended were great. Knitter's Fair in Kitchener was a first for us and turned out to be a fun day. We did two weaving seminars, Five Counties in Oakville and OHS Central Region in Peterborough. Both were very well attended with high levels of enthusiasm. Marie really enjoyed John Marshall's morning presentation at Five Counties. Making a last minute decision Marie enrolled in his Sunday workshop where she was able to design a Kimono inspired jacket for herself. Now the task is to find the time to actually make the jacket. We sat in on Jane Stafford's workshops at Peterborough and enjoyed both of them very much. Jane is an excellent presenter and made dressing a loom with 100% mohair look Oh! - so easy! Please accept our best wishes for a safe and fun-filled Holiday Season. We hope 2001 is a special year for you. Don & Marie Beginners Tip - A Beaded Fringe Why not try this special finishing touch; a beaded fringe for your scarf or stole or even the edge of a vest. There are many different ways to pattern the beads, here is one you may find attractive.
Beaded Baubles:
Marie discovered this simple lace pattern in an old text called "Complete Guide to Modern Knitting and Crocheting" by Alice Carroll - 1942 adjust the number of stitches to make the width you would like. It knits up beautifully with our variegated Rayon Chenille yarn. The colors drift through one another while delightful patterns emerge. Marie used 2 - 2oz skeins of the Seascape colorway on Brittany 3.75 needles. Any of our chenille would work or you could use Rayon Lustre on the same size needles. Ripples and Waves Tension - 23 stitches x 32 rows in stocking stitch. Pattern - Cast on 55 stitches Row 1- Purl Row 2 - K2, *yo, K4, K2 tog., K4, yo, K.1 Repeat from * across row. Last repeat will end with yo, K2 (instead of yo K1) Repeat these 2 rows. Tencel update!
