Goodbye summer, where did you go? While a hot one for most of us it has been a great summer all round. The approach of Labor day brings focus on the upcoming September shows. The warm days with a breeze were great for drying yarn. Some days the deck was a blaze of color with all the skeins set out to dry. We have been concentrating on painted warps and kits as well to make sure we have lots for the fall period. Be sure to check "What's New". We are making a number of changes and additions that will give you even more color choices. Don & Marie Teal, Tencel, Twill Scarf
The pattern below takes 300 ends and is woven at 28 epi and can be used with our new hand painted Tencel warps, as was the scarf pictured here. If anyone would like a larger scale draw down just let us know and we would be happy to send one out.
Opening & Closing by Lois Ericson with Anne Charles ISBN 0-911985-09-3 This one is NOT new, but I just discovered it. Anyone that enjoys making wearables should definitely have a look at this one if they can find a copy. "If you like to make garments that are unique the closure is the detail that will make the difference." There are over 100 different ideas for various closures in this book. Illustrations show not only buttons, but also the use of buckles and bracelets, along with many options for buttonholes beyond the traditional types.
Visit Lois Ericson's website at www.designandsew.com You can purchase this book through her site. While you are at the site, have a look at her sewing patterns. Many of them would be wonderful to use with handwoven fabrics. Whats New & Coming ! New Variegated Colorway-Mountain Mist Introduced for fall is a new variegated color in both Rayon Chenille and Tencel. Mountain Mist is our first four color variegated and is a beautiful combination of misty gray, sandy brown, soft violet and a cool light blue. Mountain Mist is a subtle, delicate and elegant colorway. Tencel- The five new colors of mill dyed 2/10 Tencel are here! The colours are: a strong dark Red, a vibrant peacock Blue, a soft mid-Purple, a rich mossy Green color and Tussah. All these colors are available on 1 lb. cones $36.00 ea. or 1/2 lb. tubes at $20. ea. With the arrival of the mill dyed Tencel we are making changes to the hand dyed line. Red has been discontinued and two new colors added. The first is Claret, a bright fuchsia pink that is ideal as an option to purple for weft with the Wine Country Tencel scarf warps. The second new colour is Teal which is a soft bluey green color that is great as weft with the new Teal color Tencel warps. Tencel Warps- a new addition to the Tencel painted warp colors is Teal. This color creates a scarf that is lighter in color than the other combinations and fills the request we have received for for a laid back green tone. The dominant Teal color is complimented with dashes of violet, brown and soft turquoise. The four Tencel warp color combinations now available are Red, Blue/Purple, Wine Country and Teal. Each warp is chained ready to go on the loom and yields two scarves approximately 70" long and eight inches wide. Two 3 oz. skeins of Tencel are required for weft. Chenille- In early September we expect to have on hand two new mill dyed colors. Finally strong dark green 1330 yd/lb called Okra, and we mean dark to replace the Deep Forest shade we had last year. The second color is a luscious light purple, deep pink, obviously hard to describe, 1450 yd/lb color called Berry. If you have a project in mind where you think these colors will work please call for samples. Some Kits Discontinued- With the creation of the Tencel warps we have taken a decision to discontinue availability of the Fine Warp Scarf kits. We have also discontinued the Shadow weave scarf kits. There is always something happening at William's Mill where Marie has her Studio. On Saturday September the 29th and Sunday the 30th the Annual Fall Festival will be in full swing. A feature of the Festival will be the Great Pumpkin Silent Charity Auction. Each of the Mill artists will be putting their considerable design talents into creating pumpkins that will be displayed in their studios and the Gallery. Visitors will be invited to bid on their favorite Pumpkin creation. Plan to visit the Mill and get in on the fun. Weaving Lessons Since the opening of the Studio, Marie has returned to teaching weaving. The second series of lessons for beginning weavers starts on Saturday, October 13th for five consecutive Saturdays until November 10th. Sessions run from 10 am to noon at the Mill Studio. Rental of table looms is available at minimal cost. Yarn is provided for each student. Tuition is $200. For more info, call on the toll free line 1 877 448 4544. September/October Specials Super Special Clearance on Undyed 2/6 Mercerized Cotton This is great yarn but it doesn't fit in with the our Tencel, Rayon and Silk product line. We need space and we need it right away so the cotton has to go. That's why it is priced to sell!
