In our area Spring has finally arrived. The Daffodils are in
full bloom and the lot of Tencel Night Sky that Linda painted
is drying on the deck.
Marie has finalized one of the new colorways in our hand painted
line of Tencel, Rayon Chenille and Hand Painted Tencel warps.
Be sure to see What’s New for all the details on English
Garden.
Our May/June special features our Hand
Painted Warps with Free weft.

| Why am I talking about a quilting
book you might ask? This is a wonderful, inspirational book
that speaks about designing, working with colour, space
and line and simply seeing and interpreting details in our
environment that can be sources of inspiration for our creations,
whatever media we are working in.
The basics of colour are explained in an easy to understand
manner. |

More methods of playing and manipulating
colour and space are described very clearly.
Useful “Artist’s Hints” are given along
the way. One suggestion that caught my interest is working
with colour pages from magazines. Collect sections of cut
magazine paper in different colours with attention to pattern
and texture, as well as the actual colour. I was delightfully
surprised at the wonderful colour pages I found. It is a
completely different way of looking at a magazine |
| Collect and store these cuttings
in plastic sleeves, sorting in colour families as you go.
This collection can then be cut in strips, woven and manipulated.
They can also be arranged as you would a reeling. There
is even a template you could use to get started. This book
is lavishly illustrated. Just think weaving instead of quilting
when taking in all the delicious images. I’m always
amazed at the inspiration I find in books of other media,
especially any dealing with thread, yarn or textiles.
Another hint describes planning a “wall file”
or a “design file” with drawings, sketches,
coloured papers, and in our case, probably bits of fabrics
and yarns, even weaving drawdowns perhaps.

I found this book at a fabulous bookstore in Burlington,
Ontario, “a different drummer”, 513 Locust Street,
905-639-0925. If you are in the area, it’s a lovely
way to spend a couple of hours.

What's New &
Coming!
New Hand Painted Variegated Colorway in Rayon Chenille,
Tencel and Hand Painted Warps
Marie finalized one of the new colorways she was working up and
Linda has painted lots in both Rayon Chenille and Tencel.
What started as a trio of spring flowers became four color skeins.
Appropriately named “English Garden” it has four fantastic
spring flower hues, a light lavender reminiscent of lilac, a light
blue hyacinth shade, a perfect pink and a laid back green that
brings it all together. The Tencel would make an absolutely gorgeous
scarf knitted up as Marie did with the Tangerine in the last issue.
Available for immediate delivery the 2 oz. Rayon Chenille skeins
are $15.00 and the 3 oz. Tencel skeins are $17.00. The hand painted
warps are $69.00.
| We
may just have it?
When we buy mill end lots of rayon chenille we often end
up with smaller quantities of some colors. When the quantity
of a color on a shade card gets low we may drop it from
the card but still have stock. One of these colors may be
just what you need for a project. Just call, we’ll
be glad to send a reeling for you to check. |
