Hello!
Where did July go, here it is near the end of the month and this
newsletter is a bit late. As a result this issue will span August
to October. Good news, there are two specials this issue. Actually
Marie and I know where part of July went, we became first time
grandparents with the arrival of Cole. For those of you who have
been blessed I’m sure that is enough said.
Focus is now on stocking up for all your Fall weaving and knitting
needs, the orders are placed and will be here by the end of August.
Be sure to check out “What’s New and Coming”,
on Page two for all the latest.
Yarns Plus will be closed as of Wednesday August 15th reopening
on Monday the 27th.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the summer!

From the Distillery |
The District has been one humming place this year. The staging
set up for Luminato performances in June was unbelievable. This
city wide Festival of Arts and Creativity was a huge success and
I’m sure will be even bigger next year.
Complete details are available on the Distillery District website
- thedistillerydistrict.com.

Knitting with Tencel
Marie has been sampling with Tencel for knitting, both with our
2/10 and 2/5 weights.
There
is an image of a lace scarf knit with our 2/10 tencel in
the “Tangerine” colour combo
in the knit gallery. Recently Marie also tried knitting
another lace scarf, this time with the 2/5 weight and using
#5 needles. She used the “English Garden” colour
mix this time around and loved the result.
Here is another knit sample, again using “English
Garden” and 2/5 Tencel with #5 needles. |
|
 |
Marie tried knitting with the Tencel doubled and also single strands
and liked both results. Your choice of method would, of course,
depend on the final use for your knit project. Doubled, the knit
fabric would make a lovely camisole or short cardigan for spring/summer.
With this particular piece, finished with the knit baubles,
Marie envisioned wonderful lacey sleeves for that special top/jacket
with the baubles finishing the sleeves at the wrist. Marie is
planning to enlarge her sample so it will become a decorative
window panel for her studio, approximately 15” in width.
She enjoys mixing up the knit stitches and using a variety of
different stitches within one piece. Stitches such as the drop
stitch, the yarn over stitch, seed stitch, moss stitch and the
ever faithful garter and stockinette stitches were all worked
into the original sample and will be used again in the final panel.

Details for knit top can be found on Page 75 Knit ‘n
Style June 2007, Issue 149 |

|
Marie also knit with a solid colour cotton
yarn together with some hand-painted tencel which gave the
knit fabric some sparkling highlights that really brightened
the look.
|
For all the weavers out there, Marie suggests considering a Tencel
knit lace collar on a woven piece or beautiful knit lacey sleeves
as mentioned above. Think about combining some knit areas in your
next woven creation. A real show stopper would be a lovely woven
top that surprises with a lacey knit back. The possibilities go
on and on.

What's New &
Coming!
2/5 Variegated Hand Painted Tencel
This new line announced in the last issue is now in stock with
skeins available in all eleven colorways for immediate shipment.
This yarn is an ideal weight for many knitting and weaving projects.
2/5 Undyed Tencel
When we created the hand painted skeins in 2/5 we wiped out the
2/5 undyed inventory on hand. A new order is to arrive from the
mill in early August.
3/5 Tencel
When the 2/5 Tencel was ordered I asked the mill if they could
run some 3/5 at the same time. They agreed it could be done so
we will be receiving it with our order. Marie wants to test it
for hand painting in skeins. Hopefully it will meet our expectations
and answer the call for a heavier weight Tencel. Stay tuned for
an update.
2/10 Mill Dyed Tencel
On the way is stock of Tussah and Indigo in 2/10 Tencel. These
two colors have been out of stock for some months. As soon as
the supplier’s dye house has them ready they’ll be
shipped.
1450 Mill Dyed Rayon Chenille
Linda just completed new shade cards for the 1450 Rayon Chenille
line. Three new colours have been added, Red which is a truly
vibrant Red, Chamois best described as a greyed beige and Mocha
a rich mid brown. Lime has been discontinued.
Shade Card Sets ….Back in Stock
With all the changes that occur in stock availability
it always seems we are out of some shade cards or another. As
of now we have them all and they are all current. The complete
set of eight cards is just $10.00 postage included. Individual
cards can be ordered at $1.50 each.

| We
may just have it?
When we buy mill end lots of rayon chenille we often end
up with smaller quantities of some colors. When the quantity
of a color on a shade card gets low we may drop it from
the card but still have stock. One of these colors may be
just what you need for a project. Just call, we’ll
be glad to send a reeling for you to check. |
