Hello!

The fall colors have finally arrived in our area a bit later than usual due to warm temps. With five large Maple trees on our lot we are never in a hurry to see the leaves fall.

The Five Counties and Central Region Seminars we attended this fall were both great events. Its always a joy to chat with customers and catch up on what’s happening in their fibre world.

Marie has turned her talents to “blogging” with the creation of a blog on the Yarns Plus site. Have to be careful these days as the digital camera is always close by for those candid shots. Marie gives all the details across the page .

Be sure to check out “What’s New and Coming”, on Page two for all the scoop on happenings product wise plus the news on lower prices below.

Wrapped in Art

As mentioned in the last issue as part of the city-wide Nuit Blanche events in Toronto in September, MarieJosette mounted an exhibition of innovative, one-of-a-kind shawls, capes and wraps. Following the opening of “Wrapped in Art” on September 29th Marie and Josette were invited to move the entire exhibition to Creativfestival. Held at the Toronto Convention Centre October 26 to 28 this show offered fanatstic exposure to the parcipating fibre artists. Congratulations all!

All the details on upcoming events at the Distillery District can be found at: thedistillerydistrict.com.

When you visit the Distillery District be sure to drop into Marie Josette Wearable Art at Studio 105, Case Goods Building, 55 Mill Street, Toronto. Wednesday—Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Yarn Bits---a blog

Marie has begun a blog, Yarn Bits, on the website to chat with other fiber enthusiasts about anything related to Yarns Plus or Woven Works and sometimes topics come up that may seem completely unrelated, but there will be a thin thread connecting the subject most of the time. For instance, a couple of recipes have been posted, one for shortbread cookies with lemon and lavender and another for great cranberry chutney, just because it is sooooo good. The shortbread recipe was used as a treat for a special evening event at the MarieJosette Wearable Art studio/gallery.

Thread Mag   You will find behind the scenes chatter and pictures from seminars and special events related to both businesses. Marie sometimes finds interesting websites that warrant a mention. She also may describe a surprising book find or a magazine that may contain some useful information.
There are examples of Marie’s knitting experiments with our Tencel yarn.
She also talks about her dyeing and weaving experiences. Tips and advice may appear from time to time also. Marie tries to add a post a few times every week with lots of photos.   Marie warp painting

There is a spot at the bottom of each post where you can comment on what you have read or seen. Marie would love some feed back from time to time, even if it is just to say hello. Have fun!

What's New & Coming!

Prices

Recent increases in the value of the Canadian dollar are predicted to hold for some time into the future. To continue to provide you with good yarn value we have reviewed pricing on our U.S sourced products.

Effective immediately we are reducing prices on both 2/8 and 2/10 Mill Dyed Tencel. One pound cones are now $22.00 down from $25.00, half pounds will now be $12.50 each down from $14.50. Rayon Chenille is reduced from $28.00 to $24.00/lb.

As we did in January 2007 we plan to hold prices on the balance of our products. Our lines of undyed and Black Tencel are sourced solely in Canada. 2008 price lists will be available in January.

3/5 Tencel
The 3/5 Tencel arrived and looks great. We have done up eight of the eleven hand painted colorways. Marie has knitted a sample and is pleased with the result. Skeins have been placed with a couple of yarn shops for them to knit samples and make an opinion. In the meantime we have a few undyed 500 gram cones available at $18.00 each if you want to give it a try. The 3 oz.skeins are $20.00 each. Please call for availability.

2/10 Mill Dyed Tencel
Still waiting for stock of Tussah and Indigo in 2/10 Tencel. These two colors have been out of stock for some months. Last word was they should be here by Halloween. Unless goblins get them first.

Black Tencel
Last month we totally sold out on 2/8 Tencel Black. Delivered the undyed yarn to the dye house recently so should have stock on hand by November 1. Also dyeing at the same time more 2/5 and 2/10.

Undyed Tencel
All sizes are back in stock with the arrival of the latest order from the mill.

Shade Card Sets ….Back in Stock

With all the changes that occur in stock availability it always seems we are out of some shade cards or another. As of now we have them all and they are all current. The complete set of eight cards is just $10.00 postage included. Individual cards can be ordered at $1.50 each.

We may just have it?
When we buy mill end lots of rayon chenille we often end up with smaller quantities of some colors. When the quantity of a color on a shade card gets low we may drop it from the card but still have stock. One of these colors may be just what you need for a project. Just call, we’ll be glad to send a reeling for you to check.

Information Security

There seems to be a tug of war in this day and age between us good folks and the fraudsters. We are very aware of the ways dishonest people can defraud us by gaining personal information. Here are some of the things we are doing to protect the customer information entrusted to us.

For some years now we have been shredding rather than discarding office paper. As most of you know we use the shredded paper as packing for your yarn orders.

We strongly advise you not to send credit card information in a single email. It is preferred that you call on our toll free line to provide payment information. An alternative is a series of emails with the expiry date on its own.

Since September 1st we are no longer showing all 16 numbers or the expiry date of credit cards on the credit card receipt we send in your order. If by chance your shipment goes astray no one will have the info they need to make unauthorized charges.

My brother Sandy who is head of the computer crime division for the Halton Regional Police force is our computer wizard. We have what is considered above adequate computer protection. That said we plan in the new year to acquire another computer that will carry all customer data with no internet connection .
