Hello!
 |
|
Best Wishes from Marie and I for health and
happiness in 2008. We look forward to helping you enjoy many
new fibre experiences. |
The New Year marks a full decade since we opened Yarns Plus in
January 1998. It was quite fitting that the last show we did for
2007 was the Central Region Seminar at the Neilson Park Creative
Centre, Etobicoke in October. The very first show we did way back
on Septenber 19, 1998 was the Central Region Seminar which was
held at Neilson Park as well. The supplier coordinator, Kit Mahood,
assigned us the very same space we had in ‘98.
The change in our product offering is amazing. At the first show
we had a few colours of Rayon Chenille and some hand dyed yarn.
Today we have many more colours in Rayon Chenille plus 50 colours
in Tencel and the widest size selection of Tencel
undyed and black in North America.
We both want to “Thank You” for your support of Yarns
Plus over the past ten years. We will continue to specialize in
wood cellulose products offering weavers and knitters a wide range
of Rayon Chenille and Tencel products.

Selvedge—the
magazine
 |
As a Christmas gift, Don subscribed me to “selvedge”,
which is a wonderful British textile magazine. It is rather
pricey so I had refrained from subscribing to it in the past,
but have been fantasizing about it for some time. It contains
all kinds of information regarding anything at all to do with
textiles, threads and yarns. The advertising alone is great,
leading to all sorts of explorations and discoveries on the
internet. These ads are international in scope and so you
are introduced to businesses worldwide and get a peek into
what is going on in other parts of the universe. |
 |
Each issue seems to deal with a different
theme and focus. The first issue that I have received, Issue
20, centers its articles around Scandinavia and its textile
traditions. I haven’t had a great deal of time to
read the articles as yet, but I have done a bit of internet
traveling to some amazing and interesting websites.
Check out a few of these sites when you get a chance. http://www.shirleypinder.co.uk/
some highly textured fabrics that make you wonder just exactly
how they were constructed.
http://www.vam.ac.uk/
the Victoria and Albert Museum, if you follow my blog I
have written about this site before. It is amazing. Check
out the “Out of the Ordinary: Spectacular Craft”
area which has images from all the artists in the exhibit
and peeks into their studio spaces. Also check out the world
beach project which I hope to contribute to when Don and
I are south this winter, otherwise I suggest one could arrange
buttons at home in similar designs and submit those as well.
Why not?? |
This is a magazine worth having a look at. Perhaps a guild would
take a subscription or a group of textile lovers could get together
and subscribe and share it around and then discuss various articles.
Imagine what ideas might be stimulated and what textiles might
be created as a result.

What's New &
Coming!
| Prices
Recent increases in the value of the Canadian dollar are
predicted to hold for some time into the future. To continue
to provide you with good yarn value we have reviewed pricing
on our U.S sourced products.
Effective immediately we are reducing prices on both 2/8
and 2/10 Mill Dyed Tencel. One pound cones are now $22.00
down from $25.00, half pounds will now be $12.50 each down
from $14.50. Rayon Chenille is reduced from $28.00 to $24.00/lb.
As we did in January 2007 we plan to hold prices on the
balance of our products. Our lines of undyed and Black Tencel
are sourced solely in Canada. 2008 price lists will be available
in January.

Marie has just finished knitting
a pair of socks in the new 3/5’s Tencel. She chose the
Wine Country colorway ( one of the Heritage colours we brought
back as part of the Yarns Plus 10th Anniversary) . The results
are just great. Best news is Marie was able to knit the pair
from one single three ounce skein. We have a few skeins available
in eight of our eleven colorways. Cost is $20.00 per skein.
|
Sorry but the cones of 3/5 Tencel Undyed are sold out. We plan
to place an order with the mill when we return in February.
Tencel Black
The Black Tencel mentioned in the last newsletter is on hand so
we now have full inventory in all six sizes in the line. 2/5,
2/8, 2/10, 2/16, 2/20 and 2/30.
| Parcel Postal
rates will increase January 14th …..
The notice of a rate increase has become an annual event
for Canada Post. In past years they have been selective,
raising some rates and holding others. For 2008 the increases
are universal.
In Canada shipments will go up by 5.2% for Expedited Parcel,
the service we use unless Xpresspost is requested. There
was no increase last year for shipments to the United States.
Appears the holiday is over as rates for US shipments are
to go up 5.9%.
The is a fuel surcharge based on the cost of gasoline which
is added as a percentage of the base rate. The fuel surcharge
will rise to 7.5% in January
To provide our customers with full protection Yarns Plus
pays the cost to insure each shipment. The insurance cost
will jump by 18.5%- ouch!
We will continue our practice to bill shipping at cost
backed down to the nearest half dollar.

| We
may just have it?
When we buy mill end lots of rayon chenille we often end
up with smaller quantities of some colors. When the quantity
of a color on a shade card gets low we may drop it from
the card but still have stock. One of these colors may be
just what you need for a project. Just call, we’ll
be glad to send a reeling for you to check. |
