Hello!
Got a bit of a shock when I started this issue to see it is our
50th Yarns Plus News. A lot has changed since our first issue
back in September 1998. That issue offered 2/10 undyed Tencel
and four hand dyed colors by the skein. Today we offer Tencel
in seven weights and fifty colors.
As we enter our eleventh year Marie and I would like to say “Thanks”
to all our wonderful customers, your loyalty is very gratifying.
Have to admit we’ve had a lot of fun as well.
We would also like to thank you for your patience during our
winter closing period. We are all caught up with orders and are
now preparing for the busy spring season ahead.
Marie had lots of time under the palms to experiment by knitting
socks with the hand painted Tencel in the new 3/5 size. We had
the mill run a sample lot for testing and are so pleased with
the results we have added the size to the line. See What’s
New on page 2 plus Marie’s sock talk below.
The annual inventory restocking should be complete by the end
of March so we can handle all your yarn needs with quick order
response. Only out of stock on three colors at present.

Sock
Talk
I have now finished 4 pairs of socks using our 3/5 handpainted Tencel.
It’s quite fascinating how the colours in the variegated yarns
have worked themselves into various patterns—stripes of varying
widths and, in other places, solid blocks of colour. I have found
that the knit Tencel softens when washed, just as it does after
being woven.

The amazing thing is that a complete
pair of socks can be knit with one 3 ounce skein of the 3/5
Tencel. I’m now wear-testing and washing the socks and
so far they are holding up beautifully. What a great little
project to carry about and quite inexpensive as well. |

Just for Us Originals

Just for Us Originals is an annual art show and sale
featuring the work of outstanding Canadian women artists. The
inaugural show took place on March 24, 2007 at The Old Mill in
Toronto.
The idea for the show was conceived by artwear designer Bonnie
Glass. www.bonnieglass.com
Based on her own experiences, Bonnie was convinced that women
artists needed a new venue through which to exhibit and sell their
art. In early 2007, Bonnie tested her idea on a handful of friends,
colleagues and clients. They responded enthusiastically, and several
united as a team to organize the first show in the spring of that
year. The inaugural event was a great success.
On April 5, 2008, again at the Old Mill Inn in Toronto, the second
annual Just for Us Originals show and sale will take
place. This time around it will be bigger and better than ever.
There will be more artists involved and there will be more workshops
offered. Have you ever imagined yourself belly dancing?? Come
along and give it a try, all in the name of fun and good exercise
both at the same time.
Marie has joined the organizational team for 2008 and invites
everyone to come and enjoy a day devoted to women. Invite a few
girlfriends and arrange a table together for the luncheon and
fashion show. You know the lunch catered by the Old Mill will
be wonderful. It certainly was last year! The artists will have
their booths open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for your shopping
pleasure. There will be fine artists, a photographer who can do
a special Polaroid transfer photo for you and your friends, glass
artists, a potter, jewelers, hat makers, handbags, a doll maker
and, of course, wearable artists. The emphasis is definitely on
wearable art, but a full range of wonderful unique works of art
in various media will be available. All the artists involved and
their websites can be accessed through the Just for Us site. www.just-for-us.biz

What's New
& Coming!
3/5 Tencel As soon as we got back we checked
the shop we had selected to see how the 3/5 Tencel would be received.
It’s a winner, so we got in touch with the mill and placed
an order which is to be delivered March 28th. Once on hand Linda
will be painting it in all our colorways. We expect the hand painted
to be a great yarn for hand knitters.
We will also offer this weight undyed on 500 gram cones for weavers
and machine knitters. We have included it in our March/April Annual
Dyer’s Special for only 12.75 a lb. It will be available
for shipment the first week of April. Reelings on request.
Since we started Yarns Plus we have relied on the Mill End supply
chain for most of the Rayon Chenille yarn we sell. This has enabled
us to supply quality yarn at a reasonable price. Unfortunately
this source has been severely impacted by the closing of many
textile mills in both Canada and United States. We have lost two
of our three sources in the past year and a half.
In conversation with the remaining company I have been assured
that yarn should be available later this spring and we will have
first call on the offering. This company is also trying to source
a Rayon yarn similar to the 1200 yd/lb we sold out of in the fall.
If you are planning a project using Rayon Chenille we suggest
you call to check availability as stock on some colors is limited.

| We
may just have it?
When we buy mill end lots of rayon chenille we often end
up with smaller quantities of some colors. When the quantity
of a color on a shade card gets low we may drop it from
the card but still have stock. One of these colors may be
just what you need for a project. Just call, we’ll
be glad to send a reeling for you to check. |
