May 2-4, 2003 – Thunder Bay,
Ontario
The 2003 juried show of the Ontario Handweavers and Spinners “
Au Naturel “ was held in conjunction with the OHS Biennial
Conference held in Thunder Bay. The entries were to reflect the
broad theme of “Au Naturel “ or “ Of Nature “.
The show was juried by Lynn Kennedy and Cathy Wilson.

“ Seedling 2
“ by Wan Ki An
Contains a diverse number of natural fibres and material which
garnered the Award for the off-loom constructed entry that
best expressed the “Au Naturel” theme. We were
pleased this entry also won the Yarns Plus Award. |

“Pinned Vessel” by Audrey Coltas
This leather and twine coiled vessel ‘knitted’ with
fish bones, swirls upwards like a shell or flower.

“Silk Vest” by Beth Abbott
Weft is hand spun 2-ply tussah silk with a warp of 2/20 cotton
in a modified overshot weave structure. Winner of Nell Steedsman
Award. |
“Amethyst" by Barb Ross
Hhandwoven and hand dyed using Arashi and loom –woven
Shibori methods of 100% Tencel. In colors from deep purple
to blue-grey the Amethyst’s crystalline cuts are represented
through the natural peaks and valleys of the unpressed Shibori.

“Wired”
knitted with a crochet hook similar to spool knitting by
Wendy Durfy. Consisting of copper wire, coated wire of various
colors, copper mesh and beads, the basket was inspired by
the spectrum of colors in the sunset. |
